Google Business Profile

Google Business Profile

The most valuable piece of digital real estate a local business owns, and the one almost nobody runs properly.

Local search stopped being about websites

When someone nearby searches for what you sell, Google doesn’t hand them ten links anymore. It answers the question on the page: a map, three businesses, hours, ratings, a call button, directions. A large share of that traffic never scrolls past it and never visits a website at all.

That block isn’t built from your site. It’s built from your Google Business Profile.

If your profile is thin, you’re not competing in local search. You’re not in it.

Where the clicks actually go

Break a local results page into its three zones and the picture is lopsided. Ads take a sliver. Traditional website listings take a little more. The map pack takes almost everything, and the map pack is nothing but Google Business Profiles.

Inside the map pack, position decides everything

Ranking in the top three isn’t a vanity metric. The drop-off between positions is steep enough that moving from third to first can roughly double the calls you get from the same search term.

AI made your profile more important, not less

A large share of Google searches now end without a click at all, the answer arrives on the results page. AI Overviews and the other answer engines don’t guess about real-world businesses. They need structured, verifiable facts, category, service area, hours, services, price range, reviews, photos. Your Business Profile is the cleanest, most trusted source of that data Google has on you.

So the same profile that decides whether you show up in the map pack is now feeding the AI answer above it. One asset, two doors. Most local businesses are still treating it like a phone book listing they filled out once.

What we actually do

Optimization isn’t “claiming” the profile. It’s building it out to the edges and keeping it active, because Google rewards completeness and recency.

  • Category strategyPrimary and secondary categories chosen against what’s actually ranking in your market, the single highest-leverage setting on the profile.
  • Services, products and descriptionsEvery service built out and written the way your customers phrase it, not the way the industry does.
  • Photo and video programCorrectly named, properly sequenced, added on a cadence instead of dumped once.
  • ReviewsA system for volume, recency and response, plus replies written to reinforce the services you want to be found for.
  • Posts, updates and Q&AOngoing activity signals, and the questions people ask answered before a competitor answers them for you.
  • Citations and data consistencyName, address and phone matched across the directories Google cross-references.
  • Tracking and reportingTagged links and call data so you see calls, direction requests and clicks, and whether they came from people searching your name or people discovering you for the first time.

Who this is for

Local businesses that serve a defined geographic area and win or lose on being found first, home services, clinics, practices, studios, shops, contractors and professional firms. If your customers search with the words “near me,” this is the work that matters most.

What to expect

This isn’t an overnight switch. Profiles gain ground as completeness, activity and review signals accumulate, and it compounds from there. What we can tell you plainly: the businesses above you in the map pack are doing this, and most of your direct competitors are not.

The other thing worth planning for, when the calls increase, the bottleneck moves. Answering fast, following up and booking becomes the constraint. We’d rather raise that with you early than watch good leads go cold.

Start with the audit

We'll walk your profile, compare it to the businesses ranking above you, and show you what's missing. No cost, no obligation.
